TT Supervisors Asked to Consider Tax Hike

The proposed increase is included in a preliminary budget presented Monday night.

The Tredyffrin Township Board of Supervisors is considering a preliminary budget proposal from the township staff that includes a 6.9% increase in the millage rate.

Township Manager Mimi Gleason presented the preliminary budget to supervisors Monday night. She says the proposed property tax increase would amount to $34 for the average property owner in Tredyffrin Township. Supervisors will vote on a final budget for the township on December 19.

There are 11,876 total properties in the township. 11,286 are residential properties with an average assesed property value of $221,000. Taxes are based on the assesed value of a property, not the real estate market value.

Whether or not supervisors will have the inclination or political stomachs for any tax increase remains to be seen. Republicans, who will hold a 7-0 majority on the incoming board, ran on a party platform of no tax increases. While the campaign centered on a proposed Earned Income Tax (EIT).  The EIT proposal was killed in its tracks by the T/E School Board last week when the school board voted not to put the EIT to a public vote in April, 2012.

Gleason says the full budget proposal as presented Monday night will be posted on the township's website Tuesday morning. Patch will be following the Tredyffrin Budget throughout the process.
