Valley Forge Turnpike Widening Update

The bridge over Glenhardie Road pavement will be installed this summer before the road reopens.

TREDYFFRIN, PA – The closed section of Glenhardie Road beneath the Pennsylvania Turnpike overpass is scheduled to reopen this summer, turnpike officials said.

Updating the bridges over Thomas and Glenhardie roads is part of a $117 million project to widen a 2-mile stretch of the turnpike to six lanes at the Valley Forge Interchange, which is milepost 324-326.

Deck beams are in place for the Glenhardie section of the new bridge.

The outer sections of the new turnpike bridge over Thomas Road have been built.

Deck beams are now in place for the outer eastbound and westbound sections of the new bridge carrying the turnpike over Glenhardie Road.

Crews will begin constructing the new bridge’s pavement before reopening the road under the bridge this summer.

The contractor has completed the placement of deck concrete for the outer portion of the new eastbound turnpike bridge over U.S. 422 and North Gulph Road.

With deck steel in place for the new westbound overpasses, deck paving operations will be completed this summer.

On the westbound side of the turnpike, workers completed the support for the retaining wall between Glenhardie Road and Route 422.

Excavation and grading for the turnpike widening has been completed and paving operations are underway west of Thomas Road.

Additionally, the installation of sound walls is nearing completion on the west side of the highway.

Sound panel installation continues throughout the entire project and will be completed this fall.

Construction of a large sediment basin adjacent to the Valley Forge Service Plaza at the western end of the project is ongoing, with rock excavation via blasting.

Daily traffic paces and ramp stoppages are anticipated Monday through Thursday between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. for this work.
