$500K Grant For Stormwater Culvert Upgrade In Upper Dublin
The grant dollars will help upgrade the Bodenstein Channel culvert below Commerce Drive in the flood-prone Fort Washington Office Park.
UPPER DUBLIN, PA — The township has secured state grant dollars to help fix up a stormwater culvert in one of the most flood-prone parts of the community.
The office of State Rep. Todd Stephens, R-Montgomery, announced this week that Upper Dublin will be receiving $500,000 to upgrade the existing Bodenstein Channel culvert below Commerce Drive in the Fort Washington Office Park, a low-lying area known to flood during heavy rain events.
The money comes from the Commonwealth Financing Authority.

The improvement project will involve replacing two metal pipes with a concrete box culvert to match the capacity of the downstream box culvert that moves water out to the Sandy Run tributary, according to the legislator's office.
"Addressing flooding in the office park has been a top priority over the years," Stephens said in a statement. "This grant will reduce pressure on local taxpayers who would otherwise be forced to carry the burden of upgrading pipes needed to reduce flood risk."

The goal of the improvement project is to reduce overall flooding in the area of the office park, which over the years has seen some pretty serious flooding events that have necessitated things like vehicle rescues from stranded motorists.
"I want to thank the [Commonwealth Financing] authority for hearing my arguments for these projects and agreeing that [they] will make our community a better place to live," Stephens said.
