Upper Dublin Police Department Mourns Loss Of Former Longtime Officer
William D. "Billy" Carroll, 64, an Upper Dublin police officer for nearly four decades, has died. He was also a volunteer firefighter.

UPPER DUBLIN, PA — A former member of the Upper Dublin Police Department who served on the force for nearly four decades has passed away at the age of 64.
The department announced late last week that William D. "Billy" Carroll, a former Upper Dublin Police corporal who served on the force for 37 years before retiring in 2018, had died on June 19.
The department did not offer a cause of death but Carroll's official obituary states that he died after fighting a "courageous battle following a traumatic brain injury in 2016."

Carroll, who was born in Pittsburgh, began his career in Upper Dublin back in 1981. He was also a lifetime member of the Fort Washington Fire Company, where he had served since the age of 16, according to the Upper Dublin Police Department.
Carroll was not only an Upper Dublin police officer, but he was also a graduate of the Upper Dublin school system.

While working for the police department, Carroll held various positions, including EVOC instructor and fleet maintenance coordinator, and he was a member of both the Moreland Area Emergency Response Team and the Montgomery County Major Incident Response Team, according to the department.
"Corporal Carroll was one of the most well-known police officers in the Upper Dublin Township Police Department and it seemed everyone in the community knew him," the department stated in a Facebook post. "He was dedicated to helping others and that was a quality he extended to his coworkers. If you were fortunate enough to work with him you were treated like family."
The department said that while he was dedicated to his profession, he was also very dedicated to his family.
"Corporal Carroll was the epitome of a public servant and his legacy will live on in those he affected throughout his life and career," the department stated in its Facebook post. "We will never forget his dedication to the Upper Dublin Township community, his friends and his family."
Carroll's obituary says that he was a dedicated volunteer with the Fort Washington Fire Company for 43 years. He had served as assistant chief engineer, lieutenant, captain and assistant chief.
Carroll was also an avid Flyers and Phillies fan and enjoyed watching Nascar racing, his obituary states.
He is survived by his wife, Patty, daughters Stephanie Morris of Eagleville and Sarah Carroll of Shippensburg, and three grandchildren, Hadley, Danny and Charlotte Morris.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service that has been scheduled for July 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Anton B. Urban Funeral Home, located at 1111 S. Bethlehem Pike in Ambler.
Interment will be private.
