Letter to the editor: Library's First Friday Success
The Upper Moreland Free Public Library had a record attendance at its first Friday fundraising event

A letter to the editor:
The First Friday in February Family Fun Night Fundraiser started three years ago, as part of an effort to raise funds for the renovation of the Children's Room at the .
It was a wonderful success, due to the efforts of the library staff, Board of Trustees, Friends of the Library, local service clubs and local restaurants and others that donated food and services so that we could maximize our fundraising "profits."
The event was so popular that many requested we make it an on-going tradition.

In 2010, the First Friday was managed by the Friends of the Upper Moreland Free Public Library, volunteers that raise funds for those programs and services that the Library offers to the community that are outside of the operating budget.
In spite of the snowfall (the eve of the record-breaking Feb 2010 snowstorm), we were well-attended and successful.

This year's event broke all records, under the leadership of Marilyn Hagy, of the Friends Group.
As I drove out that night, it struck me that the First Friday Fundraiser at the Library has become a premier social event for our community, much like the "Taste of Willow Grove" held each December.
My personal thanks to all involved. I encourage anyone reading this to join the Friends of the Upper Moreland Free Public Library.
Membership forms are available at the library or at uppermorelandlibrary.org and clicking on the "Friends and Funds" tab on the left.
You can join for as little as $5/year, but please consider - where would your time and talents fit in to help support our wonderful library?
Karen Houck
Vice-President of Board of Trustees Upper Moreland Free Public Library
