Schwartz Uses Spring Dinner to Start Primary Campaign

U.S. Rep. Alyson Schwartz spoke in Upper Darby Friday.

Upper Darby's Drexelbrook played host to the Delaware County Democratic Committee’s annual spring dinner Friday. U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz, D-13, of Montgomery County, who had announced she'd entered the 2014 gubernatorial race, was one of the featured guests.

According to the Delco Times, Schwartz spoke of her father who'd served in the Korean War.

"Her first bill, which she said was signed into law by former president George W. Bush, provided tax credits to businesses that hire unemployed veterans," said the Times article. "She also was a driving force behind the Pennsylvania Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)."

“And today, 11 million children have health insurance because of the work we started here in Pennsylvania,” she said during the dinner.

Schwartz also told guests at the dinner that "many people are fed up with the misguided politics in Harrisburg," according to the Times. "She said Gov. Tom Corbett, a Republican, has abandoned many opportunities to help Pennsylvanians."
