'Friends' Plan Upgrades at Tamanend Park
The nonprofit Friends of Tamanend Park will use proceeds from the recent flea market to improve Upper Southampton's park.

Proceeds from each hot dog, soda and bargain bought at Tamanend Park's recent event will filter back into the township park as the nonprofit group tasked with "making it a better place" works on several beautification projects.
Andy Pickford, vice president of the Friends of Tamanend Park, said that while proceeds from the Friends-sponsored flea market are still being calculated, the group's largest park fundraiser was a "success."
The 60-member all volunteer group is planning a busy summer of park improvement projects, including an ongoing pond restoration; upgrades to the butterfly garden and adjacent trails; the addition of signs for selected trees within the park; and regular monthly walking trail cleanups.

"We try to do what we can, along with the park and recreation people, to conserve the park," said Pickford, who grew up in Southampton and walks his dogs in the park. "We just want as many people to come to the park ... and hopefully they'll take an interest in visiting the park more."
With any luck, that interest could grow into stewardship and a desire to become a Friend.
