'Violent Man' Refuses to Leave Burning House in Southampton

Police and fire departments at 6 p.m. Friday responded to the scene of a house fire near Stephen Way off of Joan Drive in Southampton, according to emergency reports.

Reports state that a man, who "has a history of being armed and violent," barricaded himself inside the burning house. Smoke was coming from the second floor, but the man was on the first floor, preventing emergency workers from reaching the scene.

Firefighters found the bulk of the fire on the first floor and attacked it from outside.

There was no further word on the condition of the barricaded man.
