Soccer Camp Heats Up In July

Upper St. Clair's Marmion Field will host an instructional program for boys and girls.

When it comes to sports in the summer, soccer players should be happy.

Instead of shoulder pads or long-sleeved uniforms, they're decked out in shorts. And that certainly helps, considering they're almost constantly on the move.

We'll see what the thermometer looks like July 23-26, when the Shoot to Score Soccer Academy and the University of Pittsburgh men’s soccer program will offer a day camp in Upper St. Clair Township.

The camp, for girls and boys age 7 to 12, will run from 9 am to 12 noon each day. It takes place at Marmion Field, at the intersection of McLaughlin Run and Morrow roads.

According to Shoot to Score, instruction will focus on the development of soccer skills through individual and small group exercises. Passing, receiving, dribbling, shielding, tackling, heading and shooting skills are emphasized.

And good news for campers: Everyone will receive a Nike soccer ball and official camp T-shirt.
