USC Official: Snow-Covered Roads? Don't Drive Unless You Must

The Upper St. Clair Public Works and PennDOT crews are working overnight due to the winter storm.

If you wake up to snow-covered roads in the morning, don't go out unless you have to.

That's the message from the Upper St. Clair Public Works department.

"And if you do drive, please drive with caution and patience and give the guys time and space to do their job," said George Kostelich, public works director.

Local crews will be out through the night and morning treating the roadways for the 5-to-8 inches of snow Upper St. Clair is expected to get.

"The good part is that the temperatures will be in the low to mid 30s assuring the road salt will work well," Kostelich said.

PennDOT crews are also ready for the snowfall.

"Crews and salt trucks will remain out in full force overnight through Wednesday as long as needed," said Jim Struzzi, press officer.

Many Upper St. Clair residents said, "It's March and we're ready for spring!"

Kostelich said the township normally sees an average of 7-and-a-half inches of snowfall in the month of March with temperatures averaging 39 degrees—and his department is ready.

"Currently all of our equipment is in very good condition and ready to go, which is a testament to the quality of our mechanics ... we have had quite a run this winter testing the men and equipment," Kostelich said.

The period of most intense snow will be between midnight Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
