USC Schools Benefit From Giant Eagle Program

Apples for the Students recipients are announced for 2011-12.

Two local schools are recipients of various educational equipment through the Giant Eagle Apples for the Students program.

The supermarket chain provided items to Upper St. Clair High School and the Wesley Spectrum Academy at the conclusion of the 2011-12 academic year.

“The money that would have been used to purchase computers can now go toward other in-school programs," said Tina Thomson, Giant Eagle manager of community relations.

Customers can call 800-474-4777 or visit the company website, provide their Giant Eagle Advantage Card number, and select the school or schools (up to five per customer) of their choice.

Since the program's inception in 1987, Giant Eagle has presented local schools with nearly $30 million worth of computer hardware and software, encyclopedias and fitness equipment.
