8 Of 10 Bucks Coronavirus Deaths In Care Facilities: Officials

All eight of the deaths reported on Wednesday were of residents of long-term care facilities, county health officials said.

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — More than 8 out of 10 deaths from the new coronavirus in Bucks County have been among residents of long-term care facilities, officials said late Wednesday.

According to figures released by the Bucks County Department of Health, nearly 82 percent of the county's 288 coronavirus-related deaths have been in nursing homes and other care centers. Eighty-five percent of the county's deaths have been of people 70 and older, officials said.

Officials reported 95 new cases of the coronavirus and eight new deaths associated with it on Wednesday.

Nursing homes and other long-term care facilities accounted for more than half of those new cases reported, according to the Bucks County Department of Health. Forty-five residents and six staff members were among those testing positive.

Wednesday's numbers brought the county's total number of COVID-19 cases to 3,599.

Of the eight new deaths reported, all were residents of long-term care facilities and all had underlying health issues. They ranged in age from 68 to 94, officials said.

Only seven of the new cases in Bucks County were attributed by officials to community spread.

On Wednesday, 197 patients in the county were hospitalized with the virus, 21 of them in critical condition and on ventilators.

Also, 956 county residents have been confirmed to have recovered from the virus and were released from isolation.
