GameStop Closing Its Doors In Warminster

The video game retail chain is expected to close several low-performing locations throughout the country, according to reports.

WARMINSTER TOWNSHIP, PA — After closing numerous stores early last year, GameStop is expected to be closing more locations to start this year, including two in Bucks County, according to reports.

The retail chain that sells video games will close its Street Road site at Center Point Place on Jan. 15.

Meanwhile, its Richboro location at Crossroads Plaza is also expected to close at some point this month, social media reports indicate.

Other Pennsylvania stores targeted for closure are in Hazleton and Beaver Falls, reports stated.

Industry experts said that GameStop is closing stores due to a major shift to digital game purchases, hurting its core business. Due to high-operating costs , the chain is shrinking its store portfolio across the nation by shutting underperforming locations to cut expenses and adapt to changing consumer habits.

The company has streamlined operations, closed hundreds of stores globally over the past few years as physical game sales decline, with plans to focus on other areas like trading cards and potentially digital assets.

The GameStop closures are expected to begin around Jan. 7 through Jan. 15, according to social media reports.

GameStop, Inc. bills itself as the world's retail gaming and trade-in destination for games, systems, consoles, and accessories.

GameStop does not publicly release an official, comprehensive list of store closures.

GameStop has other Philadelphia region locations in Norristown, the Willow Grove Park Mall, Airport Square, Abington Town Square, the King of Prussia Plaza, and several locations in Philadelphia.

It was not reported that any of those stores would be closing.

Social media posts reported store closures expected in Connecticut, Georgia, Texas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Virginia.
