More Lower Bucks Co. Teens On The Roads With School Celebrations

Bucks County authorities are alerting residents about more teenage drivers during prom season and upcoming high school graduations.

LOWER BUCKS COUNTY, PA — With prom season and high school graduations upon us, authorities are warning residents to be on the lookout for more teenage drivers hitting the road this month.

"This is a time for celebration, and we want to ensure everyone arrives at their destinations safely," Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn said.

Schorn recently sat down with Deputy District Attorney Christine Sassane, Chief of the DA's Crash Investigations Unit, and Chief Crash Investigator Steve Mawhinney to discuss crucial teen driving safety tips.

  • Distracted Driving — It's easy to get caught up in conversations, music, or your phone, but even a few seconds of distraction can have serious consequences. Keep your focus on the road.
  • Speeding — The excitement of events can sometimes lead to rushing, but speeding significantly increases the risk of accidents. Stick to the speed limit and allow plenty of travel time.
  • Impaired Driving — Absolutely no amount of alcohol or drugs should ever be mixed with driving. Plan ahead for a safe ride home by designating a sober driver, using ride-sharing services, or arranging for a pick-up.
  • Seatbelt Use — Buckling up is the single most effective way to protect yourself in a crash. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly wearing their seatbelt, every single time.
  • Passengers — While it's fun to drive with friends, too many passengers can be distracting and can also impact the handling of your vehicle.

"Please take these reminders seriously and make smart choices behind the wheel," Schorn said. "Let's ensure this prom and graduation season is filled with joyful memories, not preventable tragedies. Share this message with your friends and family —let's all work together to keep our roads safe for everyone."
