PHILADELPHIA REGION, PA —There was no Lombardi trophy for winning the Super Bowl back then —because there was no Super Bowl.

While the Super Bowl trophy is named after legendary coach Vince Lombardi, the National Football League handed out different trophies —one the Philadelphia Eagles won by beating Lombardi and the Green Bay Packers in the 1960 NFL Championship Game.

That trophy was long ago missing —until it was found in a closet by a West Chester teenager.

Liam Edelstein was visiting his grandparents in Florida in 2017 when his uncle told him and his father about the trophy, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

.“We’re like, ‘What trophy?’” Edelstein’s father Matt said in an Instagram post.

Years ago, Eric Hisam said he brought to Florida a 1960 NFL championship trophy from his aunt’s home in Philadelphia.

The trophy once belonged to James P. Clark — the Eagles owner when they beat the Packers for the 1960 title — and Hisam’s uncle Max Leven was the Center City jeweler who made the award.

“For years, this just sat in their closet,” Matt Edelstein said in the Instagram post.

The Inquirer stated that the Edelsteins are serving as the trophy’s caretaker.

It sits in their West Chester home after being transported in a duffel bag back to the Philadelphia area before the start of the 2017 season—the year the Eagles won the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots.

The Eagles beat the Packers at Franklin Field 17-13 on Dec. 26, 1960, with Quarterback Norm Van Brocklin and linebacker/center Chuck Bednarik starring in the game.

Liam said he and his family have no plans to sell it. Instead, they consider it a good luck charm, keeping it on the team’s couch.

“It’s pretty crazy to rub it on fourth down or third down, watch them get a stop, and then be like, ‘That’s because we just rubbed the trophy,’” Liam told the Inquirer.
