Sixers Still Sinking, Birds Battered: This Week In Philly Sports

Can Eagles backup Kenny Pickett make the charge to beat the Dallas Cowboys? And will Sixers star Joel Embiid ever have a healthy season?

PHILADELPHIA, PA —The NFL season is winding down, the Sixers are still sinking, the Phillies were relatively lukwarm in Hot Stove action and the Flyers are still playing that game called hockey.

As ex-Eagle Jason Kelce continues to rule the world, we end this year with the final Philly sports roundup and here's hoping to a 2025 with the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl, the Phillies making a stronger run for a World Series championship before Bryce Harper retires and some Joel Embiid sightings on a basketball court near you.

Well, wishful thinking!

Sixers Still Acting Like A Dumpster Fire

The Philadelphia 76ers finally have 10 wins in a season that started in October. This team is still a train wreck or a dumpster fire or whatever words you choose. And when star Joel Embiid does play, he gets other injuries. This most recent one is a sinus fracture that has him wearing a mask. He's also fighting with referees, whether wrong or right, and getting tossed from games. It's gonna be a long rest of the season. But they beat the hated Boston Celtics, a rare feat and maybe a Christmas miracle.

Can Pickett Make The Charge To Beat Dallas Cowboys?

Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Jalen Hurts probably is going to sit Sunday out with a concussion. But here comes backup Kenny Pickett to lead the charge against the Dallas Cowboys. The Birds are a little battered and bruised going into the game against that hated Dallas team. And they're also a little stunned by the Washington Commanders, who snapped the Birds' 10-game winning streak on the last play of the game. This team needs to get healthy before the NFL playoffs and also start a new winning streak.

Phillies Relatively Lukewarm In Hot Stove Action

Have you heard these names before? Joe Ross, Max Kepler, Jordan Romano, Nabil Crismatt, Paul McIntosh, and Luis Verdugo. These non-household names could be on your 2025 Philadelphia Phillies. It wasn't the hottest Hot Stove action of the winter, but the Phillies solidifed some soft spots: adding a veteran outfielder in Kepler from Minnesota, a starter/reliever in Ross, and a potential closer in Romano from Toronto. But the big fish by President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski caught everyone by surprise. He hooked Miami Marlins starter Jesus Luzardo for two minor league prospects. Not a bad way to bring a little warmth to a cold winter.

'A Philly Special Christmas Party' Breaks Billboard Record

As we mentioned above, former Eagles great Jason Kelce rules the airwaves. And he's making music to the tune of Philly faithful. That was evident when Billboard magazine announced recently that the third and final holiday benefit album from The Philly Specials (Jason Kelce, Joran Mailata, and Lane Johnson) is a Billboard record breaker. The album sold 22,000 vinyl pressings and 32,000 copies in its first week upon release just before Thanksgiving. "A Philly Special Christmas Party" features classic rocker legend Stevie Nicks and brother Travis Kelce too. Here's hoping the football team can make as much music as some of its players on a Super Bowl run.
