Warminster Officer Saves Wounded Man With Tourniquet

The officer was conducting a traffic detail when the man, bleeding profusely, asked for help.

WARMINSTER, PA — Quick thinking by a Warminster Police officer may have saved the life of an injured man last week.

On Wednesday, Oct. 2, Officer Joseph Parell was conducting a traffic detail shortly after 5 p.m. at Tenth Avenue and York Road.

According to police, he was approached by a man saying that he needed help. The man got out of his vehicle and fell to his knees, holding his right arm which, along with his torso, was soaked with blood.

Parell quickly called for an ambulance as the man began sweating profusely and his coloring began to fade due to blood loss. Her applied a tourniquet to the man's arm to slow bleeding, then gathered cloth and gauze to pack and keep pressure on the wound.

The ambulance arrived, police say, just as the man was losing consciousness. Parell helped the crew get the man into the ambulance and he was taken to Abington Hospital.

According to police, Parell checked on the man the next day. The man thanked the officer for his help at that time.

Police did not disclose, in a news release, what had happened to cause the victim's injuries. Patch has reached out for more details.

"Officer Parell’s professional demeanor and dedication to duty is a credit not only to himself, but to the entire Warminster Township Police Department," the department said in a news release. "His actions have demonstrated that he is truly an asset to this department and the entire community."
