William Tennant High School Launches 'ExcitED' Program

The Centennial School District school announced the launch of the new workforce-readiness program for students.

WARMINSTER, PA — William Tennant High School has announced the launch of a new education program called 'ExcitED'. The program will give students the chance to engage in real-world experience toward developing career-building skills and taking part in mentorships.

This program comes as part of a recently made partnership with the Bucks County Department of Workforce & Economic Development, the Wistar Institute, and the Pennsylvania Society for Biomedical Research (PSBR).

ExcitEd, as described in a statement by the school, "will provide both students and teachers in Bucks County the opportunity to participate in authentic professional experiences within the disciplines of user design, entrepreneurship, and biotechnology."

Mentorships, internships, workplace visits, job shadowing, and employment opportunities will be just a few of the benefits for students who take part in this new program. The addition of interactive education such as this will be of great benefit to students looking to go on to one of the fields the program is tailored towards.

The Pennsylvania’s Department of Labor and Industry awarded a two-year, $250,000 Schools-to-Work grant to go toward the development of the program. This will allow it to be integrated into the curriculum of the school, and will serve as another opportunity for hand-on education for a younger generation.

The purpose of the grant will be to develop "a pre-apprenticeship program focused on creating workforce development partnerships between school districts, higher education institutions, and local businesses to increase learning and training opportunities for Bucks County youth."
