WESTTOWN — A total of $3 million is required to complete the Westtown Township’s purchase of the 206-acre Crebilly Farm to keep the park as open space.

Todd Sampsell, Natural Lands vice president of conservation, provided an update on the sale of the farm during a Jan. 16 township supervisor’s meeting.

Sampsell said March 31 is the deadline to purchase the site from the Robinson family.

“I’m confident that we will get there,” he said. “If the deadline is not met, there will be an extension on the timeframe for the purchase.”

Sampsell delays are typical for such a large purchase.

Sampsell said the conservation organization hopes to get support from American Battlefield Trust, a non-profit that preserves battlefields.

The Crebilly Farm, located off Routes 202 and 926, dates back to the American Revolution.

Crebilly Farm is a historic landmark in Chester County and part of the Brandywine Battlefield.

In April 2022, the Westtown supervisors voted to purchase 206 acres of the farm for a park, preventing the historical land from being sold to developers.

The township has received grants from Chester County to purchase the land. In the November 2022 election, residents voted two to one to keep the land as open space.

Developers have proposed building townhouses, but the supervisors voted against the sale.
