COVID Cases Up In Chesco, But Numbers Are Concentrated By Town

CHESTER COUNTY, PA — Deaths from COVID-19 in Chester County now number 413, according to the Chester County Department of Health COVID-19 dashboard, and as the total number of positive cases goes up, the municipalities with the highest concentration of cases have remained high across the months of the pandemic.

Cases of COVID-19 went up by 107 last week, the Pennsylvania Department of Health reported.

The Chester County Department of Health dashboard shows, in a scroll, townships and boroughs in the order of their case count as a percentage of that municipality's population.

It is noteworthy that the number of deaths in a municipality are not necessarily correlated with its total case counts or its number of cases per its population. For example, the highest percentage of cases per the population is in Avondale Borough, where it's at nearing 5 percent, but there have been no deaths there and 69 COVID-19 cases.

Experts have stated widely that COVID-19 spread and death rates in an area can be driven by factors in the social situation of a place. Closer living situations can make a difference, as can the overall health of an area's population, or the occupations of groups of people there.

Municipalities with high concentrations of COVID-19 cases have remained high on that scroll list throughout the course of the pandemic, with some variation.

Below is a list of municipalities in Chester County with the highest concentration of case counts as a percentage of their populations. The list also provides the total number of COVID-19 cases in the municipality, and the number who have died there.
