WEST CHESTER— A 60-year-old old former New Garden Township supervisor was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a child he was babysitting for between eight and 13 years of age from 1999 to 2003, officials said.

Warren Reynolds of Avondale is in Chester County Prison Thursday in lieu of $2M bail after being arraigned earlier this week before District Judge Matthew Seavey on aggravated indecent assault of a child and related charges.

Police said the victim had reported the sexual abuse to county detectives in September 2020.

The molestation occurred while Reynolds was watching her in his Avondale home, according to county detectives.

“Warren Reynolds engaged in a depraved and systemic course of conduct violating a young child he was responsible for protecting and keeping safe,” District Attorney Deb Ryan said. “We will do everything possible to get justice for this brave victim. It took years for her to find the courage to speak to law enforcement about the horrors she endured.”

Ryan said she commends the victim’s bravery and hopes the defendant’s arrest is the first step towards justice.

According to Chester County court records,

Police said he was arrested on June 12, 2013 after a technician who was repairing his computers found 500 photographs and videos of child pornography.

Reynolds then resigned from his public position of supervisor of New Garden Township, an 11.6-square mile township known for the mushroom agribusiness.

Reynolds was sentenced in 2014 to two to four years in state prison after pleading guilty to possessing more than 500 photographs and videos of child pornography.

He was declared a violent sexual predator under Pennsylvania Megan’s law, which requires that he register with state police his whereabouts.

Subsequently, in Sept. 2020, county detectives interviewed a victim who detailed being sexually abused by the defendant when she was eight to 13 years old.

The abuse occurred several times a week between 1999 and 2003 when she was in the defendant’s care at his home on Penn Green Road in Avondale.

The abuse also occurred in New Castle County and Lewis, DE.
