Henderson High School Esports Teams Qualify For Playoffs

The teams competed with 50 schools in esports competitions.

WEST CHESTER, PA – Henderson High School Esports teams have demonstrated exceptional skills this season, with all four teams qualifying for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Esports Association playoffs.

Under the guidance of Jamie Wagner and co-advisor Dan Coley, the esports teams competed against over 50 schools.

“Celebrating the remarkable achievements of our Esports teams at Henderson is a moment of immense pride for our school community,” said Wagner, an advisor and Henderson teacher.

“These young athletes have showcased not only their gaming skills but also the values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship.”

The achievement is a testament to the dedication, skill, and teamwork exhibited by the talented individuals who make up the school's Overwatch 2, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Rocket League, and Valorant teams.

Here are the results of the competition:

  • The Overwatch 2 team, in its inaugural year, showcased remarkable potential by advancing to the first playoff round under captain Joshua Marnien. Despite a valiant effort, the team was eliminated after a strong debut season, setting a solid foundation for future success.
  • The Super Smash Bro’s Ultimate team, led by Captain Russel Platt, engaged in a thrilling 5-player round competition, reaching the second round and narrowly missing victory by just one point. The team's performance has left fans eager to witness their continued success in upcoming seasons.
  • Rocket League, under Captain Giuliano DiLiberto, dominated the regular season with an impressive 7-1 record. The team secured the top spot in their division and an impressive 4th ranking in Pennsylvania. With a first-round bye, they are set to compete in the second round on Dec. 13 aiming to carry their winning streak further into the playoffs.
  • The Valorant team, captained by Joey D’Antonio, mirrored Rocket League's success with a notable record. Will Geary, drew attention and admiration. Like Rocket League, Valorant earned a first-round bye and is set to play in the second round on Dec. 14.
