Maryland Man Charged In Hit-And-Run Crash in Chesco
Thomas Ponelli is free on nominal bail awaiting court action on charges of drunken driving and possessing a loaded weapon without a license.
KENNETT SQUARE —A 29-year-old Maryland man was driving drunk and carrying a loaded weapon while in a hit-and-run crash on Dec. 2 in Kennett Square, police said.
Thomas Ponelli III is free on nominal bail after being arrested on charges of drunken driving and carrying a weapon without a license.
Police said Ponelli had a blood-alcohol content of 0.288 percent when he was in a hit-and-run crash at 5:38 p.m. in the 200 block of Birch Street. Under Pennsylvania law, a person is intoxicated with a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 percent.

During a vehicle search before the vehicle was towed away, police located a loaded firearm behind the driver’s seat. Police said Ponelli’s license to carry a firearm had expired.
