As always you guys got it right away. The drawing is of the Chester County Hotel that was located at 36 West Market Street at the time.

yes you are correct. i owned a house in the 400 w market st block and it came up on a deed search as servant's housing for the mansion house hotel. built in 1832 by wm everhardt. our house was given as a dowrey to his daughter's husband; since she was not permitted to own property at the time.

A little additional information to the excellent previous posts. William Everhart was a UofPenn student with William Strickland who became one of Philadelphia's pre-eminent architects in the early 1800's. It was Strickland who designed the Hotel and, better yet, was responsible for his student/employee - Thomas U. Walter - to come to West Chester to produce many of the Borough's wonderful buldings. Among other attributes, the Mansion House was known for its collection of exotic (caged) birds.
