West Chester Area School District’s Bus Drivers Win Second Place

The bus drivers competed Saturday in Chester County Transportation Association's 42nd Annual Bus Safety Competition.

WEST CHESTER, PA —Despite dreary weather on Saturday,West Chester Area School District’s team of bus drivers pulled into Downingtown Area School District’s Marsh Creek Sixth Grade Center ready and excited to compete in the Chester County Transportation Association’s 42nd Annual School Bus Safety Competition.

Over 90 school bus drivers from districts throughout the Chester County area competed in the event.

The competition is comprised of a written test and 10 different driving events that test drivers’ skills and knowledge while maneuvering a school bus.

West Chester's team of bus drivers placed second in the overall competition.

“We are incredibly proud of the drivers who participated,” said Michele Porco, transportation manager.

Porco said the dedication shown by both the district's team and individual competitors towards safe driving and ongoing driver training is commendable.

Individual awards were presented to these drivers:

  • Chery Vogelsang on On The Go Kids placed sixth,
  • Joan Cowan of Krapf Buses received seventh place,
  • Patti Carey of Kraft Buses received ninth place.

  • Thamar Speksnijder, Krapfs;
  • Kira Biddle, Krapfs;
  • Patti Carey, Krapfs;

  • Deven Garvey, Krapfs;
  • Joanne Cowan, Krapfs;
  • Jody Ann Tait, Krapfs; and
  • Cheryl Vogelsang, On the Go Kids.
