West Chester Bypass Construction Begins Today

PennDOT's $3.6 million construction project on Route 322 is expect to be complete in the winter.

WEST CHESTER, PA – A $3.6 million roadway construction project to improve travel and safety along a 2.87-mile section of the West Chester Bypass in East Bradford and West Goshen townships, Chester County.

Construction on the project is expected to finish this winter.

  • Today through Saturday, Aug. 6 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. a lane shift is scheduled on westbound on Route 322 between Downingtown Pike and Route 202 for shoulder reconstruction.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur.

Under this safety improvement project, PennDOT’s contractor will narrow the travel lanes; extend the acceleration lanes; replace and install traffic signals; construct shoulders to accommodate bicycles; install center line rumble strips; replace guide rails; and install wrong way countermeasures throughout the project corridor.

The intersections included in this project are North New Street, Route 100 (Pottstown Pike), Penn Drive, Phoenixville Pike, and Route 202.

The project aims to improve the safe and efficient movement of motorists and bicyclists on the U.S. 322 corridor.

Allan Myers of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
