Acting Police Chief Named In Yardley Borough

Sgt. William J. Golden III has been appointed as Yardley Borough's acting police chief. He replaces Police Chief Joseph Kelly III.

YARDLEY, PA —Yardley Borough now has an acting police chief.

Sgt. William J. Golden III has been appointed as the interim police chief, replacing Joseph Kelly III, who was sworn in as the new police chief in Lower Makefield Township.

Golden has served in the Yardley Borough Police Department since August 2005.

Before joining Yardley, Golden served in the U.S. Army (Active) as a U.S. Cavalry Scout, with deployments to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

During his tenure in Yardley, Golden has served as a Field Training Officer, Firearms Instructor, Rifle Instructor, Weigh Master, Child Safety Seat Tech, Highway (motorcycle officer), Juvenile Officer, and Patrol/Admin Sergeant.

Golden was promoted to the rank of sergeant in January 2013.

Golden has completed various leadership trainings while with the YBPD such as the FBI LEEDA Supervisory School, FBI LEEDA Command School, FBI LEEDA Executive School, Operational Planning, Incident Command School, Incident response to terrorist bombings, Active Shooter Command, and s currently enrolled in the prestigious Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, which he is planned to graduate from later this month.

Golden has also received many commendations while serving with the police department with the YBPD Life Saving Award (1) YBPD Unit Citation Award (7) YBPD Excellent Police Service Award (3) and the YBPD Meritorious Duty Award (1).

Golden also served under Kelly for the past decade and plans to continue to provide Yardley Borough with the type of policing that Yardley Borough is known for while continuing to protect the community, businesses and visitors it serves, borough officials said.
