Woman Found Near Canal In Bucks Co. Was Shot: Police

The woman's body was dumped near the Delaware Canal in Lower Makefield Township.

LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA — A woman found dead near the Delaware Canal on Sunday was allegedly shot and killed by her boyfriend in New Jersey, with her body dumped in Pennsylvania, authorities said.

The Mercer County (N.J.) Prosecutor's Office said Alyssia Murphy, 32, of Trenton, was in a silver Toyota Camry parked on Coolidge Avenue with a friend when her boyfriend, Lamont Truitt, approached the car and began arguing with her.

Authorities said that he then pulled out a handgun and fired multiple times, killing Murphy, while her 25-year-old female friend was able to get out of the the car.

Authorities said Truitt then entered the Camry and drove away. Two hours later, the Lower Makefield Township Police found Murphy's body in the area of East Ferry Road and the Delaware Canal.

Truitt, 36, was arrested Sunday after turning himself in to the Trenton Police Department.

He is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, first-degree carjacking, and other weapon and firearm possession offenses, Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey said.

Police said there was no ongoing concern for community safety.
