Cold Spring Bleachery Headlines Yardley Walking Tour
The Yardley Historical Association will offer the tour on Oct. 23. The bleachery used to be one of Yardley's largest industries.

YARDLEY, PA —Back in the day, the Cold Spring Bleachery was bustling.
Yardley Borough’s largest industry employed 150 workers on 28 acres of many buildings, tanks, and reservoirs. Huge bolts of “gray” cloth were brought to the Cold Spring Bleachery for cleaning and finishing, then shipped to manufacturers to be made into consumer goods, such as men’s dress shirts.
Those are the stories Susan Taylor, president of the Yardley Historical Association, will tell during her guided walking tour of the former site that will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m.

The tour will begin at the Old Library by Lake Afton, 46 West Afton Ave.

She will also discuss the businesses that later occupied the property and its eventual transformation into Yardley Walk, a townhome community. The tour will include a visit to Whiskey Hill, the adjoining residential neighborhood.
When the walkers return, they can view a collection of old photos of the area that they just visited at the Old Library.
A $5 per person donation is requested. Reservations are required.
