District Judge Michael Burns Passes Away At 55

Honorable Michael J. Burns died suddenly at his home in Yardley on Sunday, his obituary says.

Honorable Michael J. Burns died suddenly at his home in Yardley on Sunday, April 23, 2017, after a long battle with a chronic blood clotting disorder. He was 55.

Born in Abington, Michael has been a lifetime resident of Lower Bucks County.and grew up in Queen of the Universe Parish, Levittown, where he received all of his sacraments. He was a 1980 Maple Point High School graduate, 1984 graduate of Penn State University and a 1994 graduate of Widener Law School. Michael was appointed District Judge in 2002, and was currently serving Morrisville, Lower Makefield and Yardley.

He was involved with many activities in the area, especially Horse Thieves of Yardley, Big Brothers of America, Elks Lodge 2026, Sons of Italy in Lower Makefield and the American Legion in Yardley. Michael was active with the Solid Rock Youth Center and the D.A.R.E. Program in the Pennsbury School District.He was an avid reader, enjoyed playing his guitar and writing music. Michael also enjoyed fishing and the theater. He was a huge Phillies fan.

He is the son of the late Charles J. Burns Sr. and brother of the late Barbara L. Burns.Husband of Karen Saraco Burns, Michael is the survived by his mother, Eleanor "Ellie" (Rice) Burns; his sister, Peggy McAuley (David); brothers, William C. and Charles J., Jr. (Janette) Burns; and his nieces and nephews, Bill, Matt, Meg, Stephen, Brian, Jenn and Jess.Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, from 2:00 until 6:00 pm at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown.

Friends may also call on Monday, from 9:30 until 10:30 am at Queen of the Universe Church, 2443 Trenton Road, Levittown, where his funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 am. Interment will be held privately.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Fund c/o Holy Family Regional Catholic School, 2477 Trenton Road, Levittown, PA 19056 or to Conwell-Egan Catholic High School Drive, 611 Wistar Road, Fairless Hills, PA 19030.
