Both organizations hope to utilize the celebration as an opportunity to educate Bucks county residents on the history of slavery in the area.
"We hope to honor this holiday, which commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, by recognizing the role William Penn and Bucks County played in continuing the practice of slavery in America," a statement from Pennsbury Manor read online. "Despite his Quaker beliefs, Penn held at least seven people in slavery, including Sam, Sue, Susannah, Yaff, Jack, Peter, and Chevalier."
