Memorial Day Parades March Through Morrisville, Yardley

Rifle salutes and ceremonies were among the Memorial Day celebrations in the two communities on Monday.

YARDLEY / MORRISVILLE, PA —Residents in Yardley and Morrisville boroughs paid their respects to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice during Memorial Day parades in both communities over the holiday weekend.

"It really was a great day and a huge turnout," Morrisville Mayor Gary Wallace told Patch Tuesday. "It was nice to see the community come out and join in the celebration."

The Yardley-Makefield Fire Company, Morrisville Fire Company, and Falls Township Fire Company were among those participating in the Yardley Borough Memorial Day Parade.

Yardley began its Memorial Day observances with rifle salutes at sites throughout the borough and Lower Makefield, including veterans cemeteries, Borough Hall, and the Lower Makefield veterans monument.

A ceremony was held Monday morning at the Yardley monument at Afton and Delaware avenues before the parade went down Main Street to the Yardley-Makefield American Legion Hall.

Morrisville's parade started Monday at the steps off from the Morrisville Presbyterian Church before concluding with aceremony at the Morrisville Cemetery on South Pennsylvania Avenue.

"A special shoutout to Julian and the Morrisville Fire Department for organizing such a great event for our town. We're celebrating all the men and women who serve or have served to protect our beautiful country," Wallace said. "Together, we honor the legacy of those who have given so much to our country."
