YARDLEY BOROUGH, PA — The borough has a new leadership team for 2026.

Former Council President Caroline Thompson was sworn in as mayor, David Appelbaum as council president and Councilwoman Michelle Sharer as vice president.

"I’m genuinely excited about a new year, a new role, and new opportunities. As I step away from Council, I do so with full confidence in the seven members continuing to serve our Borough," Thompson told Patch on Tuesday. "I’m looking forward to continuing the many great events and initiatives Mayor Chris Harding championed, while also adding a bit of my own flavor and flair to the role."

Thompson said the borough's reorganization of council brought no surprises.

"David Appelbaum has been passionate about leadership in Yardley for nearly a decade — through his pursuit of elected office and his service on boards and committees across the Borough, including Spearhead Project Earth, the Harvest Day Committee, Experience Yardley (past), and as an active liaison to many of our boards, commissions, and the YBA," the new mayor said. "I wish him well in this new challenge and will absolutely be there to support him and help him succeed."

Thompson said that one quality matters above all else in a vice president: Dependability.

"Michelle Sharer shows up — consistently," Thompson said. "Her meeting attendance is unmatched, and her thoughtful participation when called to meetings related to staffing and borough projects is appreciated. I know David will be able to rely on Michelle as his vice president, and I’m excited to see her spread her leadership wings (just like a Peking duck ) in this new role.

Former Council Vice President Uri Feiner announced his resignation at Monday's meeting.

"I’m honored to be here, having been given the opportunity once again to serve our wonderful town. I want to thank everyone for being here to serve our community, Caroline for taking on the responsibility of Mayor, David and Michelle for taking on the roles of leadership, Kim for coming back, and particularly the new people — Martha, Jason, Paul — for stepping up to this special role. You are the next generation of council, and I’m very excited for that," said Councilman Uri Feiner at the meeting.

Appelbaum could not be reached for comment on Tuesday.

Thompson later swore in the other council members and the borough's tax collector at the meeting.

They included new council members Martha Irene Howlett, Jason Goldstein, and Paul Mencel, and Tax Collector Christine Ventresca.

Thompson said she has "a few tricks up my sleeve for my first 30 days as mayor" to elevate communication and engagement with residents — so keep an eye on my social media channels (@mayorofyardley on Instagram and Facebook).
