LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA — Some local quilters are teaming up with Lower Makefield Township Police to help out kids in tough situations.

The Newtown Quilters' Guild has partnered with LMT police through the guild's "Crayon Quilts — Children Helping Children" philanthropy program. The program provides quilts for first responders to give to children they meet during the course of their duties.

The guild says the program is away to help kids going through a tough time. The quilts feature words of encouragement sewn into them, as well as artwork created for children, by children.

"What a wonderful way to help children in distress as well as a great opportunity to teach other children the importance of giving," said Lower Makefield Township Police Chief Ken Coluzzi. "Police officers can also benefit by knowing they are comforting a child and lessening their fear. I am proud to become part of this program."

Founded 30 years ago, Newtown Quilters' Guild provides a welcoming community for quilters,
bringing people together through a shared love of their art. The guild holds monthly meetings at the Lower Makefield Township Community Center, on the third Tuesday of every month.
