Collected by T. Sidney Cadwallader in the 1960s and 1970s, the works of art reflect his family’s pride in the community in which they were actively involved.

The works were contributed to the Yardley Historical Association when the law firm closed this winter.

All of the art depicts scenes in downtown Yardley: South and North Main Streets, Canal Street, and East Afton Avenue.

Many illustrate buildings and details that no longer can be seen.

Among the artists represented are Janet H. Austin, Harriet Ermentrout, John Foster, Aaron G. Fryer, Peggy Dowdell Horn, Maurice Hugo, and Joanna Krasnansky.

The two large aerial maps were photographed in 1948 and 1950 and show the Delaware River flowing by Yardley Borough and Lower Makefield Township. View the “Quintessential Yardley” pieces here.

The show and silent auction are a one-time opportunity to experience Yardley’s past in the art and maps collected by one of the town’s foremost families.

The tradition of cherishing Yardley can be continued by acquiring one of these pieces and giving it a new wall on which to hang, while also supporting the preservation and maintenance of
Yardley’s jewel, the Old Library by Lake Afton.
