FAIRLESS HILLS, PA — The seats in the Charles Boehm Middle School auditorium have stories to tell.

They've stood the test of time, supporting generations of students, parents, teachers, and staff for nearly 70 years.

But with renovations set to begin at the middle school now that school has ended, those original 1950s seats are being replaced.

School officials offered the seats for free over the past few weeks.

"Now’s your chance to own a piece of Pennsbury history — uncomfortable charm and all," school officials said. "Whether you sat in them for a school play, a chorus concert, back-to-school night, or to avoid the gym, these seats are full of memories (and possibly a few rogue pieces of gum from 1983)."

People came to pick up seats over two days last week, as the seats were given away in groups of 3 or 5.

While the seats were free, school officials said that donations to the Charles Boehm Music and Arts Programs would be gratefully accepted:

The remaining seats that were not taken were hauled away on Monday.

The school district is wrapping up the middle school renovations project, which began two years ago.

Phase 1 of the project called for renovating 6th-grade classes and science rooms. Crews were also tearing down the original instrumental music and choir rooms to make way for a new music suite.

Phase 1 work also included the addition of a new front entrance and office.

The new entry shifted from facing Big Oak Road to the building side opposite the bus depot. The current office space will later be converted into new classrooms, school officials said.

Oher phases included renovations to 7th and 8th-grade classrooms, the cafeteria, media center, and locker rooms.

Updates were also made to the Family Consumer Science classroom, a new STEM classroom, a new large group multi-purpose instruction room, health room, fitness center, nurses suite, and renovated restrooms.
