ShopRite Celebrates 10 Years In Lower Makefield Twp.
The supermarket Friday will unveil Caper Carts, smart shopping carts expected to enhance the shopping experience for customers.
LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA —ShopRite of Yardley is celebrating its 10th anniversary with Friday's launch of Smart Shopping Carts expected to enhance convenience for shoppers.
The Caper Carts are part of a weeklong celebration at the store located at 1603 Big Oak Rd.
The smart shopping carts, powered by Instacart technology, allow customers to scan items as they shop, manage their budget in real-time, and check out seamlessly.

The cart uses sensors, computer vision technology, and built-in scales to automatically scan items and weigh produce as items are placed in the cart. The running total is visible on the cart screen as customers shop, allowing them to keep track of spending.
Shoppers can also link their ShopRite Price Plus cards to apply in-store savings and deals.

“We are so excited to mark our 10th-anniversary celebration with the addition of Caper Carts. It’s another tool we can offer customers for a smart, convenient way to shop that makes their store experience even better,” said Sam Colalillo of the ShopRite of Yardley. “We hope our Yardley neighbors will come in and try the carts and check out some of the other fun events we have planned all week long.”
Store celebrations scheduled for next week include:
- Daily samplings in the store’s beer and wine department
- A Certified Angus Prime Beef customer dinner on Friday, Aug. 30. (Sign up at Guest Services)
- Hatch Chili Festival at the store on Saturday, Aug. 31.
Sam, a third-generation grocer, works with his father Joe Colalillo, president of ShopRite of Hunterdon County. The family-owned company also operates ShopRite stores located in Flemington, Greenwich, and Clinton, N.J., and Bethlehem.
Joe Colalillo’s father and Sam’s grandfather, Joseph A. Colalillo, founded the family’s grocery business 66 years ago. Today, the company employs more than 1,300 associates across its five stores. The family opened the ShopRite of Yardley in August 2014 with a focus on fresh prepared foods and customer service.
“Our associates educate and engage our customers, and their passion really makes the difference in our business,” Joe Colalillo said. “We have an in-store retail dietitian who offers complimentary nutrition services to customers and collaborates with store chefs to conduct cooking classes. The store team also supports local food pantries and raises awareness around food insecurity. It’s not just about food, it’s about people, and we look forward to celebrating and thanking our customers and dedicated team for 10 great years.”
