YARDLEY, PA —When the Delaware River freezes, Yardley Photographer Josh Friedman recalls one of the major moments that led to the birth of a nation.
"It reminds me of the iconic painting of George Washington and the Continental Army crossing the Delaware River during the Revolutionary War," Friedman told Patch. "With our prolonged cold stretch, I got up this morning eager to take some photos of the river."

Friedman took a snapshot of the West Trenton Railroad Bridge Crossing the Delaware River about 15 minutes before this morning's sunrise.
It is just a few miles south of where Washington made his historic crossing.

"When I took this photograph, it was 6 degrees, the river was largely frozen, and the sky was a beautiful combination of pinks, blues, purples and yellows," he said.
The snapshot is an HDR (high dynamic range) photograph from four exposures that he merged together.
