LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA —As Wegmans readies to open its second supermarket in Bucks County next month, its Yardley store team is working toward becoming a good neighbor.

Earlier this month, the Yardley Wegmans store team presented the Bucks County Opportunity Council with a $10,000 donation to support the agency's mission of reducing poverty and promoting economic self-sufficiency.

With the grand opening of its second Bucks County location on March 20 in Lower Makefield Township, Wegmans has been making the rounds and delivering some community contributions, said Marcie Rivera, who is coordinating public relations for the store.

Wegmans is certainly no stranger to Bucks County, having operated a store off Route 611 in Warrington since 2006.

But with a new store nearly ready to go, Yardley Wegmans Store Manager Bill Platt and Service Manager Dave Hemmer have been busy building upon existing relationships in Bucks County over the past year.

By the time the new store opens, the Yardley team will have already contributed more than $32,000 through community donations and sponsorships.

In late August, the Yardley team participated in the annual Lower Makefield Township Community Day. Under a bright blue Wegmans tent, they handed out snacks and shared information about hiring to spread the news that Wegmans was coming to the area.

“We saw the excitement that the community had for us coming to this township,” Platt said. “We felt good about coming into the community and being welcomed by others.”

The team also provided donations to the Makefield Women’s Association, the Kiwanis Club of Washington Crossing-Yardley, and Shady Brook Farm for their Holiday Light Show.

The 88,000-square-foot store at Prickett Preserve will employ 415 people, 155 of which will be full-time workers and 260 part-timers.

Patch was the first media in the Philadelphia region to get a sneak peek at a tour of the new building in November.
