Yardley Main Street Sidewalk Gets Cash From PA

The sidewalk project will get more than $300,000, while $150,000 will go to Morrisville to help with signals around Trenton Avenue.

YARDLEY, PA — Yardley Borough will be getting more than $300,000 from the state to help finish the sidewalk project on Main Street.

State Sen. Steve Santarsiero and state Rep. Perry Warren, who represent Yardley, announced Friday that the borough will be getting $312,147 in state funding for the project. The money will be a grant from Pennsylvania's Department of Community and Economic Development.

The grant will pay for about 1,200 linear feet of concrete sidewalk along the northern side of North Main Street, the lawmakers said. The project also will include stormwater and other pedestrian improvements.

In Yardley, local officials have called the ongoing Main Street sidewalk project a top priority. In 2019, the borough received a $125,000 state grant to help with the second phase of the project.

"Yardley Borough is a real gem and a very pedestrian friendly destination," Santarsiero said. "The construction along North Main Street will help provide access to the many restaurants and shops that attract both locals and visitors to our community."

In Morrisville, a $150,000 grant will go toward safety-minded pedestrian improvements and traffic signals at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Trenton Avenue.

"The state funding of these pedestrian and traffic signals is another important step, as we work together with Morrisville Borough Council to improve pedestrian and traffic safety in Morrisville," Warren said. "Together, these grants reflect our shared goals of boosting our downtown economies, enhancing our quality of life and ensuring pedestrian and traffic safety."

The state's multimodal transportation fund grants are designed to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to residents.
