Former University Of Rhode Island Pitcher Going ‘Bananas’
Trystan Levesque was drafted by the Savannah Bananas.

KINGSTON, RI — Former University of Rhode Island pitcher Trystan Levesque has been drafted by the Savannah Bananas.
"Six months after throwing his last pitch for URI, Levesque learned that his baseball career would continue as a 'Banana,'" the university said in a media release. "The East Lyme, Connecticut native was drafted on Nov. 13 by the Savannah Bananas, one of six teams that plays exhibition baseball games in the entertaining Banana Ball Championship League."

The Bananas, an exhibition barnstorming baseball team based in Savannah, Georgia, play a variation of baseball known as Banana Ball, emphasizing showmanship, fan participation and fast-paced action.

Levesque will join the Bananas in Savannah on Jan. 15, according to the release.
Levesque has ridden an "emotional roller coaster" the last two years, according to the release, as he suffered a hamgstring injury after just his second game as a senior and missed the rest of the season.

"In 2025, Levesque made a momentous comeback," the release said. "After rehabilitating his injury and earning his bachelor’s degree from URI in public health, with a minor in psychology from the College of Health Sciences, he returned to the baseball team as a graduate student. Pitching stronger than ever, Levesque established a program record by starting 16 games on the mound. An 8-2 record, 3.49 earned run average, and 95 strikeouts earned Levesque Second Team All-Atlantic 10 Conference honors."

Levesque is on track for a homecoming of sorts this summer as the Bananas are scheduled to play two games Aug. 28 and 29 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.
