The study, conducted by coffee blog Coffeeness, examined Google Trends search interest data for popular festive and holiday beverages across the 50 states over a 12-month period.

"Our research reveals a compelling contrast between classic comfort drinks and emerging cocktail favorites, according to a media release accompanying the study.

Rhode Island's favorite drink turned out to be hot chocolate, the study determined.
Hot chocolate was also the favorite of 12 other states, making it the most popular holiday beverage of all.

"Hot chocolate's lead as the most searched festive drink in 13 states confirms what we
suspected: Americans still crave the simple comfort of this childhood classic during the holiday season. Whether topped with marshmallows, whipped cream or a candy cane stirrer, this beverage remains the ultimate symbol of winter coziness," according to the study.
