'Somos Rhode Island' Art Exhibition Opens At State House

The exhibit will remain on display through Nov. 28.

PROVIDENCE, RI — The art exhibit "Somos Rhode Island" opened at the Rhode Island State House Tuesday.

The exhibit features portrait paintings of individuals from Rhode Island's Latino community by René Gómez, according to a media release.

"This art installation brings a vibrant display to the State House — brightening the halls with the stories of many influential figures," Rhode Island Secretary of State Gregg M. Amore said in the release.

"I hope Rhode Islanders and visitors alike come to the State House to see the faces they may recognize, and to learn more about those they may not," Amore said.

The exhibit is installed in the Lower Level of the state house and features 31 portraits, according to the release.

"The portraits each tell a story of an individual from Rhode Island's Latino community and together underscore the impact of Latino history on the state," the release said.
