URI's Eric Genther Signs With New York Yankees
The outfielder is the second University of Rhode Island product to catch on with a Major League organization.

The University of Rhode Island's Eric Genther has signed a free agent contract with the New York Yankees on the heels of the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft, according to the school.
Genther is the second Ram to either sign or be drafted by an MLB organization this year. Teammate Anthony DePino was picked by the Chicago White Sox in the seventh round of the draft.

A four-year starting outfielder for URI, Genther played the second-most career games of any Ram. The Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, native finished his tenure in the program's career top-10 in numerous categories, including runs batted in, runs scored and hits. A two-time Atlantic 10 All-Academic selection, Genther led the team in both batting average and hits as a senior.
The only player to start all 60 of URI's games in 2025, he tallied three assists from the outfield. As a team captain, he helped the Rams win both the A-10 regular season and tournament titles. By winning the latter, URI secured a spot at the Baton Rouge Regional as part of the NCAA Tournament.
