The website Stacker used data from Pro Football Reference to compile the list.

Did you ever wonder who was the greatest football player to come out of Rhode Island?

The website Stacker did the work to answer that question for you, and it's Pawtucket product Gerry Philbin.

Stacker analyzed data from Pro Football Reference to compile the list topped by Philbin, who spent 10 years in the NFL, all but one with the New York Jets.

The defensive end was a two-time Pro-Bowler, two-time All-Pro and a Super Bowl champion.

"This list highlights players who made their mark on the league — some remembered for their longevity, others for their peak dominance," Stacker said of its ranking.

Following Philbin was Providence native Al Del Greco, who kicked for three franchises over a 17 year career, and coming in third was defensive tackle Steve Furness, also of Providence, who was a four-time Super Bowl Champion during his nine years with the Pittsburgh Steelers and also played a season for the Detroit Lions.
