Here's What's Happening This Weekend

Here are some things to do this weekend, Dec. 13-15, in and around Barrington:

Start off your weekend tonight at Barrington Congregational Church, which hosts the 11th annual Winter Jazz Concert sponsored by the Barrington Preservation Society as a fundraiser. The concert starts at 7:30 pm at The White Church, 461 County Road. It features the Barrington High School Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Barbara Hughes. General admission is $5. Society members are free.

Linden Place Mansion in Bristol also hosts a concert tonight. “The Clancy Legacy Celtic Christmas” starts at 7:30 pm. It’s a fireside concert in the ballroom honoring both the holidays and winter solstice. The Clancy Legacy includes some of the next generation of performers descended from the Clancy Brothers of Ed Sullivan fame in the 1960’s. Aoife Clancy is on vocals and bodhran, Robbie O’Connell plays the guitar and sings and George Keith plays the fiddle and concertina. Tickets are $20 general admission, $16 for Linden Place members and $12 for Colt Circle members. Call to reserve tickets at 401-253-0390. 

The Future Business Leaders of America club at Barrington High School hosts a gingerbread house decorating event on Saturday at 9:30 am at the high school, 220 Lincoln Ave. You can decorate a gingerbread house and benefit TAP-IN at the same time for only $15.  If you bring a toy to donate, the house costs only $8. 

The Baptist Church in Warren holds its annual “Christmas Cookie Walk” on Saturday, Dec. 14, starting at 9 am. The sale goes on until all the cookies are gone. A wide variety of homemade and hand-decorated frosted, filled, sugar, and gingerbread cookies will be sold at $8 per pound. Come early for the best selection.

The Linden Place Museum in Bristol also offers a storytelling event on Saturday afternoon. Actor and master storyteller Robb Dimmick will read two holiday books starting at 2 pm. He will read “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” by Dylan Thomas and “A Christmas Memory” by Truman Capote. The event takes place in the ballroom and is open to all ages. It is part of the museum’s month-long celebration of the holiday season. Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for children and include admission to tour the festively decorated Linden Place Mansion. Members of Linden Place receive a $2 discount. Admission is free for Colt Circle members.

End your weekend with the Music Program of Barrington Presbyterian Church. It presents on Sunday at 3 pm “Cantante de Adventum,” a choral and instrumental concert of Christmas music composed for choir, vocal soloists, and instrumentalists. This hour-long concert will feature old favorites and some lesser-known works of many styles and genres. Admission is free but a free-will offering will be collected.
