BARRINGTON, RI — While we were all inside watching the Super Bowl Sunday night, a winter storm hit Rhode Island, and it ended up being surprisingly potent as it moved across the state.

Most forecasts called for 6 inches of snow at most, but most Rhode Island communities, including Barrington, far exceeded that. According to the National Weather Service, Barrington got 8.7 inches of snow.

The heavy amount of snow forced Barrington Public Schools to cancel school. The town also delayed trash pickup by a day for the rest of the week.

Greenville got the most snow in Rhode Island with 10.8 inches.

Unless there's a drastic change, this could be the last significant snowfall for a while. The weekly forecast from the National Weather Service shows a gradual warming trend toward Presidents' Day Weekend — with a return to a high of 55 degrees on Thursday, and temperatures staying well above freezing after.
