Town Council Fills Volunteer Boards, Including Appropriations Committee

The Town Council made a slew of appointments to boards and commissions at a special meeting Monday evening, Dec. 9, including one to fill a vacancy on the budget-recommending Committee on Appropriations.

The appropriations appointment was one of only two that did not get a unanimous approval.  The other one was for the Energy Committee.

“We are blessed with an abundance of talent,” said Town Council President June Speakman in making all the appointments. 

Chad Mollica, who ran for the School Committee in 2008 and 2010, was selected by a 3-2 vote to take the place of Kathy Cadigan on the Committee on Appropriations. Speakman and Town Councilors Bill DeWitt and Ann Strong favored him.

Town Council Vice President Kate Weymouth and Councilor Cynthia Coyne preferred Amy Serrano, a former budget analyst for Rhode Island.

Here is the list of appointments and reappointments:

Zoning Board of Review: 

Peter Dennehy and Elizabeth Henderson for terms of five years ending December 31, 2018. 

Building Board of Review: 

Patrick Connors for a term of five years ending December 31, 2018. 

Conservation Committee: 

Douglas Materne reappointed to the Conservation Committee for a term of three years ending December 31, 2016.  He has served on that board since 1974 and is believed to be longest serving volunteer in Barrington. 

Harbor Commission: 

Anne Chapin and Edward Schottland reappointed to the Harbor Commission for terms of three years ending December 31, 2016.  

Library Trustees: 

Daniel O’Mahony appointed for a term of three years ending December 31, 2016. 

Laura Young reappointed for a term of three years ending December 31, 2016. 

Energy Committee: 

Robert Hart appointed for a term of three years ending November 30, 2016.   

Tiffany Hogan reappointed for a term of three years ending November 30, 2016.   The vote was 4-1 with Strong favoring candidate Jake White.

Parks & Recreation Commission: 

Edwin McKinlay and Tony Arico reappinted to the Parks and Recreation Commission for terms of three years ending December 31, 2016. 

Christina Larisa appointed to the Parks & Recreation Commission as a second alternate for an unexpired term ending December 31, 2015. 

Cemetery Commission: 

Robert Black reappointed for a term of three years ending November 30, 2016. 

Juvenile Hearing Board:

William Cauley appointed as alternate to fill an unexpired term ending November 30, 2014.
