Get a Leg Up on Homelessness at the East Bay 5K

East Bay Coalition for the Homeless is hosting its inaugural road race on Oct. 6.

Scenic Colt State Park in Bristol is the setting for the start of what organizers hope is a new tradition: the East Bay 5k to benefit East Bay Coalition for the Homeless.

A chapter by East Bay Community Action Program, the coalition provides support for homeless families and individuals, with the motto "A hand up, not a hand out."

Registration for Sunday's race begins at 8:30 a.m. at Colt State Park Shelter 1, overlooking Narragansett Bay.

The race is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. and follow a 3.1-mi. course through the park. There's also a one-mi. route. Runners and walkers welcome.

Online registration for the East Bay 5k available through RaceWire, with discounts for signing up online.

Adults $25 online, race day $30; Kids 14 & under $15.
