Powerball Jackpot Climbs to $450 Million

Strong sales and a lack of a jackpot winner has pushed the prize up and up. The drawing is Wednesday.

The PowerBall jackpot stands at $450 million and if won on Wednesday, it would mark the fourth largest jackpot in PowerBall history, according to the Rhode Island Lottery Commission.

The cash payout for the prize would be $275.4 million and lottery retailers across Rhode Island are reporting strong ticket sales in recent days as the jackpot has continued to climb.

Tickets are on sale until 9:50 p.m. Wednesday night.

The winner or winners will claim the largest jackpot since last Feb. 11 when a $564 million jackpot was won.

The last time a Rhode Islander hit it big was in 2012, when Louise White of Newport won $336.4 million after she bought a ticket while on a quick run to Stop and Shop to buy some rainbow sherbet.
